After two years off, Nike’s annual NY vs. NY basketball tournament picked up right where it left off. The showcase for elite high school players is a celebration of NYC basketball culture and the iconic parks that define it. This year, to celebrate the fans, players, and culture on and off the court, Woodstack partnered with Nike to host a pre-game at our Howard Beach store. We invited Brooklyn-based, Trini-owned ice cream shop, Island Pops to give away ice cream to customers and built out an NY vs. NY themed photobooth. We kept the energy going by bringing Island Pops and our photobooth to the Gersh Park stop of the tournament.
Despite being held inside due to weather conditions, the energy at the game was as high as ever. Some of the city’s most notable basketball legends and influencers popped out in support of the next wave of elite talent from NYC. The night was capped off with an appearance from rapper and hometown hero Rowdy Rebel who introduced the home team, Team Gersh. Gersh went on to ignite the home crowd and left with a win, putting their record at 1-1 for the summer. Week 3 was a huge success and embodied every bit of what basketball culture is all about. Follow NY vs. NY for the rest of the summer, the champs are being crowned on August 13 at Rucker Park.
